Facts and Events
According to Al Albright, "Elisha served in the 2nd NYS Rgt during the revolution. His house was built on the Medway-Urlton Rd in 1790, it was a one and one half story farm house. There is a family graveyard nearby, sometimes called twin oaks. Many Powells and relatives including Elisha are buried there. They owned 5000 acres granted by the king before 1776, to provide lumber for the families of Long Island Ship buidling business. This may account for the straightness of the open beams, 26 ft long seen throughout the house. After Elisha built his house, he returned to Dutchess Co., to prepare to move. When he returned, the house was burnt to the ground, so he and his sons built another which still stands today. The house has passed thru many hands and the current owners are Christian Robertson and Peirre Devibron." References
