Scituate, Providence, RI 23 Oct. 1777; d. Halfmoon, Saratoga Co., NY 8 Jun. 1859 (83 years);will probated 18 Jul. 1859 (book 19 page 54); bur. Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville, NY. He m. (married out of unity) RHODA POWELL, daughter of Obediah and Elizabeth (Frost) Powell, b. 22 Sep. 1777; d. Saratoga Co., NY 11 Jun. 1855 (age 79 years); bur. Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville, NY; she was a Quaker and was disowned for attending her sister, Anna Powell’s wedding (Anna married Elisha’s brother, Knowlton) Note-In a letter dated 1844 from son Powell to Elisha it states that Powell purchased a farm of 200 acres for his father in Indiana from a Mr. Clark; and that he rented it for the next year and leased out 18 acres that was girdled some 3-4 yrs ago, for 3 years they have to clear it and fence it for the use of it and when that is cleared there will be 85 acres cleared out of the 20. Note-In a letter dated 1845 from son Powell to Elisha it states, “I have 18 or 20 acres of the last farm I bought for you cleared. It was an old “deadening” and I got it cleared and fenced for the use of it for 3 years.” Note-In a letter dated 1840 from son Powell to Elisha it states, “Land partly improved can be bought here now in the present stagnation of things for five or six dollars per acre within ten miles of Indianapolis, at least one-quarter of it under cultivation.” Note-“The Settlers of the Beekman Patent” Vol. V pg 702 - “William W.
