Facts and Events
Elijah Conkling was born on 8 March 1799 in Essex County, New Jersey. On 23 May 1821 Elijah and his brother Daniel, along with Daniel’s wife, Priscilla sold the land which their father had left to them. The land was sold to their brother David Conklin for $1,200. Conklin family bible records show Elijah’s death on 7 June 1842. Some records show that a will was recorded around this time in Hamilton County, Ohio for Elijah Conkling. The will itself is unlocated and may have been destroyed in one of Hamilton County’s courthouse fires. Family records left by Elijah’s brothers, Joseph and Pierson and brother-in-law John Talbot all give the same death date for Elijah. Elijah’s brother, Joseph’s records also say that Elijah died in Tennessee where he had been a planter. Records of Elijah in Tennessee have not been found. He may have married Rebecca. In 2013 Elijah's burial place and tombstone was discovered at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Cincinnati Ohio. This suggests that he may never have gone to Tennessee. Image Gallery
