Eli H. Pretty, 60, proprietor of the Carrollton Motor Car Co., died Saturday afternoon of a heart attack in his office. Mr. Pretty held the oldest Chevrolet dealership in the world. Mr. Pretty was born January 13, 1887, in Harrison Twp. and has resided in Carrollton for the past 45 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Modern Woodman of America, the Moose Lodge of Amsterdam and the Masonic Lodge, F. & A. M., 124.
Active in Democratic Party circles, Mr. Pretty was one of the Democratic central committeeman. He was a former councilman and, until September of this year, served as Carroll County jury commissioner. On October 21, he sighed his 36th consecutive sales agreement with the Chevrolet Motors division of General Motors, thus maintaining his status as the oldest Chevrolet dealership in the world.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Catherine (Richards) Pretty; a daughter, Mrs. Doris Lee of Stanford, Connecticut; a twin brother, Allen, and six other brothers, William, Albert, Howard and Frank of Carrollton, George of Coshocton, and Ralph of Sebring; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Taylor of Dellroy and Miss Emma Pretty of Carrollton, and a number of nieces and nephews. Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Allmon Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Rockenstein officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.
