The Olberg Church is the spirtual center of Krødsherad. Inhabitants of Krødsherad are called Kryllinger.

Milton reports that Elef homesteaded 160 acres. Sophie's father Swen Larson homesteaded 80 acres but eventually lost it.Elef took over the deed to those 80 acres in 1919, so he had 240 acres in 1920 when he took the deed. When Elef died the farm was to go to Severt. Jurgine, Mary and Andrew contested the will. Andrew took over the farm, Severt moved on to other farms including the Dr. Heckner farm. Andrew eventually lost the farm, Severt purchased it in 1921 for $6000.

Translation of letter from Gunnar Helgesen Kroderen. Oct. 6, 1896 Mr. Ellef K. Smedsrud, Because it is such a long time since I have heard from you and your family I will again try to send you a few lines. I can tell you that now l am the ticket collector on the new steamship that now is in use on Lake Kroderen It is a little smaller than the steamship *Kroderen.* It is 5 feet shorter and 2 feet narrower. J.O. Nore is the captain. You can believe that we are 2 good cuckoo birds. (P.2) We have shares in it both of us. Now this winter I have thought about taking a trip over to England or to Germany if it will be possible for me. It would be only a quick trip. But it is not for sure that there will be anything of it. To America I have no desire to go. I could probably earn more money there, but then I would have to go into heavy work. I got a letter from Soren K. Olberg. He is in America and he thinks he is going to thrive. But he (P. 3) has not been there very long yet. He went just last spring. I should greet you from your Mother (Mary Smedsrud) She was with us one day. She had been out and traveled. She had been in Vikersund. She had accompanied Kristi when she went to Christiania where she will work for Consul Didrikson. Concerning the crops for the farmers, they seem to be very good this year. This has been a very good year in these areas. (P.4) I have received several letters from Mary but now for a long time I haven't heard anything from her. She has probably gotten herself a sweetheart and she is so busy writing to him that she does not have time to write to me. Maybe you can ask her about this from me. Yes, you are probably now so old, both you and Anna, that I would not recognize you even if I stood right in front of you. An affectionate greeting to all of you from me. G. Helgeson .
