Notes

Peter was surely the son of Mary Bower Zantzinger Taylor McCormick of Pine Ford on the Susquehanna in PA. Mary Bower (Bauer??) and her first husband Hans Paulus Zantzinger came from Germany and settled in Lancaster Co. PA. They were Lutheran. After his death in 1753 she married Robert Taylor. Robert Taylor then died in 1762 and she married third Charles McCormick. Some people mistakenly thought she was a Gross because Hans Paulus Zantziner had a b-i-l Michael Gross, but this Michael Gross was the husband of his sister Elizabeth and not the brother of his wife Mary. The National Cyclopedia of American Biography by James Terry White c 1967 gives the info that Hans Paulus Zantziner came to this country from Germany ca 1700 and settled in Lancaster County PA with his wife Mary Bower. I descend from Robert Taylor and Mary (Bower) through their daughter Catherine who married John Sterling/Stirling. This Sterling couple came to Jefferson County, Tennessee. Robert Sterling (son of John Sterling and Catherine (Taylor) gave in his Revolutionary War pension application that he was born 22 Dec 1754 at Pine Ford on the Susquehanna River in PA. This was the clue that I needed to search books.google.com to gain the above information!
