Re: the ancestry of Eleanor QUIMBY, wife of John DAVIS of Brookfield - Hoyt's Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury, on p. 296, says that Eleanor, daughter of Joseph Quimby and Elizabeth Getchell, "m. John Davis, both liv. 1737, in Brookfield, Mass." Joseph Quimby d. 23 Mar 1736, and I suspect (tho' I've had no chance to look for it) that something in his probate record must mention daughter Eleanor and son-in-law John Davis (else why did Hoyt mention this?). Eleanor's sister Katharine Quimby md. ca 1731 (prob at Brookfield) to Josiah BARRETT; Brookfield and Harwick VR show b, bp and d of several BARRETT children. Also Elizabeth Getchell's brother Robert Getchell and sister Joanna (Getchell) Barnes each md and res in Brookfield. So, tho' the IGI suggests Eleanor Quimby and John Davis md ca 1728 in Amesbury, she (like her sister Katharine) might have met and md her spouse in Brookfield. Her mother died about 1722 (before her father's Dec 1724 remarriage), so it would have been very appropriate for both Eleanor and sister Katharine to visit their mother's siblings in Brookfield. I admit absolute proof is needed, but the evidence is too convincing to ignore
