Edward was apparently an only child.

In 1759 he emigrated to America with his father Alexander.

1775 he recieved a land grant in Yohogania, Pennsylvania.

1787 he recieved two land grants on a 400 acre tract of land at Cross Creek, Brooke Co., Virginia. The area later became part of West Virginia. The original deed was written on sheepskin and signed by John Randolph the Governor of Virginia.

Edward was a private in the Revolutionary War, serving with Capt. Edmund Baxter's Company of the Chester County, Penn. militia as documented in "DAR Patriot Index", Pt. 3, p 3207 (929.373 D238d).

Edward and his wife Charity are buried northeast of the homestead.
