Research by Paula Mellor: Edward was not on the 1880 Census in Harrison Co, WV. Amanda, his wife, was living in Harrison Co, WV with her 82 year old mother, Elizabeth Blake. A Stout History site says that Edward died in Missouri of yellow fever and that his son William was the only one who stayed in Missouri. William Stout has been found on the St. Clair, Missouri, 1900 census.

St Clair County, Missouri: Circuit Court Docket, Term Commencing March 1st, 1880: Civil Cases. E. J. Stout vs Samuel J. Boring, account

Samuel Boring was Edward's son-in-law. But Edward has not been found on any 1880 census. The census was started in June 1880. I have not seen the above court case record. And Edward may have died between March & June of 1880.
