Disputed Lineages

The Visitation of 1613 makes Edward the son of Henry Stanley and Margaret Stanley. Dugdale's Visitation of 1664-5 makes him the son of Peter Stanley and Cicely Tarleton. In the 1664 Visitation, the informant was Sir Edward Stanley's grandson, while in 1613 the informant was presumably Edward himself. Cokayne and most other later sources follow the 1613 Visitation. However, Douglas Richardson, in Plantagenet Ancestry (2nd ed) and Magna Carta Ancestry, (mistakenly) follows the 1664-5 Visitation, which inquisitions related to the family of Peter Stanley and his son Edward show is certainly incorrect.
