Obituary for Edward Root

EDWARD ROOT DIES IN NOROTON
END CAME SATURDAY AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS.

Edward Root, an old-time resident of Ansonia died at his home in Noroton, Saturday night, after a brief illness. Particulars of the death are lacking, but relatives of Mr. Root in this city, say he had not been feeling well for some time. He was over 80 years old, and besides his wife leaves 3 sons and 1 daughter.
Mr. Root was widely known among the older residents of this city. He came to Ansonia when he was a young man,and after working a short time in the mills, engaged in the trucking and livery business. His stable was located in the yard of the Ansonia Electrical company, and after the shop was built, was moved to Water Street. The stable remained the leading one in town for years. Mr Root was a vet of the civil war, enlisting in Company B. Twentieth Connecticut Volunteer infantry. Aug 13, 1862 Company B. was made up mostly wholly of Derby men, and was commanded by Captain S.E. Chaffee. Mr. Root was made a corporal, promoted to a Sergeant on Oct.3, 1863, and a first Sergeant June 5, 1864. He was wounded July 20, 1864 at Peach Tree Creek, GA.
