Disputed Wives

Researchers have attributed different wives to this Edward Moss. Some sources have him marrying Ann Bell in Lancashire, England, while York County, VA records in 1655 & 1657 show Edward's wife as Elinor Moss (maiden name undetermined). Eleanor also is on record in 1657 as giving a calf to her son Edward, which at least proves she was Edward's wife during that time period. Whether she was the mother of Edward's children had not yet been proven. Additional sources and records are needed.

Records in Virginia

Edward Moss, "Boatwright", an early resident of York county, Va., made a gift to his son Edward in 1657, to the record of which the clerk affixes a drawing appearing to indicate armorial bearings. His wife was Elanor, who in 1665 gave a calf to her son Edward Moss, "sonne to Edward Mosse, deceased." This son was a justice in 1687, and made his will in 1716.
