Facts and Events
Edward Mackley was baptised on 25th February 1759 at Owthorpe in Nottinghamshire, son of Margaret Mackley, formerly Matchet, and her husband John Mackley. On 29th June 1781, aged 22, Edward married Alice Wild at Owthorpe. She was also from Owthorpe, and their families were already connected by marriage; Alice's brother Joseph had married Edward's sister Elizabeth in 1774. Five months after their marriage, Alice had a son, John, baptised at Owthorpe. Alice died just a few weeks later, being buried at Owthorpe on 11th December 1781. On 13th April 1785, aged 26, Edward married again. His second wife was Ann Jervase, and they married at Owthorpe, although she had been living at Eastwell in Leicestershire at the time of their marriage. They went on to have four children baptised at Owthorpe between 1785 and 1791, although their second child died in 1791 when she was just four years old. Ann died in 1792, leaving Edward a widower for a second time at the age of 33. In 1822, Edward wrote his will. By this time he was living at Radford, just outside Nottingham, and described himself as a gentleman. He died at the age of 66 and was buried at St Mary's in Nottingham on 28th March 1825, although his last abode given as Radford. References
