Heir to his elder brother Hugh. After his relative the Earl of Pembroke died, he claimed the Barony as heir general. He was imprisoned as a result of the ensuing dispute, because he refused to pay the costs after losing, lest it implied acceptance of the result. He had a son and daughter from his first wife, Muriel Dinham: John Hastings Esq. and Margaret, the wife of Gilbert Debenham, knight. He married a second wife before 1 July 1427, Margery Clifton. (So it does not appear to be true that he lived his days out in prison, as stated in some sources.) References
