Facts and Events
Family legend holds that he was adopted - his parents died when he was three and he was sent to live with William and Minnie. I once found a steamer record from Nova Scotia to Boston with an "E.C. Grant - age 3, musician" listed on it, about the time he would have been 3...there were also a few women near his name whose occupation was listed as "Lady" - was he being transported to Boston (where William worked at the time) for the adoption? It also holds that he is related to the Stuarts. Aunt Shirl comments that she used to know his birth surname, and recalls hearing it when he applied to the Atomic Boat Division (in CT?).
