Obituary Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday from the home of Henry Pelgrim, Sr., West 12th St. for Edward J. Elbers, 46, of 350 Maple Ave., who died last Saturday in Blodgett hospital, East Grand Rapids. He had been active in American Legion work, had been a member of Third Reformed church, and was a member of the Men's Bible class of the church. The Rev. William Van't Hoff was in charge of the services. Burial took place in Coopersville cemetery. Mr. Elbers was a native of Coopersville, and came here about 14 years ago to become shipping clerk at the Bay View Funiture Co. He was employed in this capacity up to the time of death. The widow, formerly Miss Kathrym Pelgrim, and a sister, Miss Linnie Elbers of Coopersville, survive. Source: Holland City News, Thursday, March 24, 1938.
EDWARD ELBERS DIES IN GRAND RAPIDS HOSPITAL Edward J. Elbers of Holland, a former resident of Coopersville died early Saturday morning at Blodgett hospital, East Grand Rapids, after a brief illness. Edward Jesse Elbers was born January 1, 1892, in Coopersville and at the time of his death March 19, his age was 46 years, 2 months and 18 days. All of his life up to the time of his marriage was spent in Coopersville, with the exception of fifteen months during the World War when he served at Camp Custer. On November 20, 1923 he was united in marriage to Kathryn J. Pelgrim of Holland. Since his marriage he had been a resident of Holland and was connected with the Bay View Furniture Company of Holland and was employed by this concern at the time of his death. He was a member of the third Reformed church in Holland and the Men's adult bible class, and was also active in American Legion activities. Surviving are the widow, and one sister, Linnie Elbers, of Coopersville. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Henry Pelgrim Home in Holland, with burial at the Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland. Source: Coopersville Observer, Friday, March 25, 1938.
