Northampton Co. Nov. Ct. 1743 J. Edwards C. Ct. Will of Edward BARNES, Edgecombe Co. NC: December 15, 1762: In the Name of God Amen. I Edward Barnes of the County of Edgecombe and the Parish of St. Mary Planter being Infirm of Body and of Sound & Perfect memory praised by God for the same considering that it is appointed for All men once to Die I hereby make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following (Viz.) first I Recommend My Soul into the Hands of Almighty God whogave it hoping thru the merrits of my saviour Jesus Christ to Obtain full Pardon for All my Sins and my Body to the Earth from whence it was made to be decently Buried at the descretion of My Executors hereafter to be Named and as to My Temporal Estate wherewith it has pleased God to Posses and Bless me I give and dispose thereof as follows first I give and Bequeath to My Son Nathan Barnes One Shilling and no more Item. I give and Bequeath to My Son William Barnes One Shilling and no more Item. I give to my Son Jacob Barnes one Shilling and no more Item. I give to my Son Abraham Barnes one Shilling and no more Item. I give to my Daughter Mourning Fiveash one Shilling and no more Item. I give to my Daughter Charity Sims one Shilling and no more Item. I give to my Daughter Mary Sims one Shilling and no more Item. I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Leigh one Shilling and no more Item. I give to my Daughter Sarah Amason one Shilling and no more Item. I give to my Daughter Patience Barnes the Plantation I now Live upon After her Mothers Decease and Mine..... Item. I give to My Daughter Elizabeth Barnes the Plantation whereon She now lives during the Term of Her Natural Life Lying on Chowan River containing about one Hundred Acres being the same more or Less and after Her Decease to My GrandSon Jacob BarnesItem. I give to my two Granddaughters Barbery and Ferreby Wiggins each two Cows and no more. pp. 2: Item. I give to my Grandson Michael Barnes one tract of Land on Chowan River joining the Plantation his Mother now lives on commonly called and known by the Name of the myery mash to him and his Heirs for Ever....... All the Rest and Residue of My Estate both real and Personall whatsoever and wheresoever Lying and being I give to My Well be Loved Wife Sarah Barnes during Her Widowhood and in case of Her Marrying onto any other Person the said Plantation afore mentioned immediately to Dissolve to my Daughter Patience Barnes aforementioned and I do hereby Appoint my well beloved Wife Sarah Barnes My whole and Sole Executrix hereby revoking all or any Will or Testament by me formerly made In Witness whereof I have here unto Set My Mark and fixed my Seal this 15th day of December in the Year of Our Lord Christ 1762 his mark Witnesses Present } Edward B Barnes and seal James X Barfield Eliz’a X Barfield Thos.
