The Bannings of this country may be from Jan (Banning) and of Dutch origin though they are generally supposed to have been English. There was an Edward Banning settled in Talbot county, Maryland, in 1678.

Edward Banning is said to have moved to Talbot Co. MD from England about 1650. He is supposed to have been a cousin of John Banning who settled in Lyme , Conn. Edward is said to be a sea captain. He purchased 50 acres of land known as "Goose Neck" on the N. side of the Choptank River on Jan 13, 1690. He married 1st ,??? He married 2nd Susannah ??? about 1698. Susannah was the widow of Mr. Nutwell by whonm she had a son John. Edwards will was signed in 1704, submitted for probate Au 7, 1710 and proved 1712 in Talbot Co., MD .
