"Edra, the younger, acquired some kind of education beyond high schooland held down a minor white collar job. In the thirties he and his wifeand two children visited my grandmother, who took an interest in theirwelfare. I remember them coming down the drive in an old Model T Ford.Edra asked my grandmother for money, my grandfather said. "You workhard for what you have. You shouldn't give money to anyone whodoesn't", he advised her. Edra had a longstanding problem withdrunkenness. Although he straightened up, he relapsed and drank himselfto death."
