Edna P. Burkett, 94, died Monday, June 13, 205 at USA Healthcare in Urbandale. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005 at the Brandt Funeral Home in Dallas Center, with burial to follow at Brethren Cemetery. Edna was born March 26, 1911 in Oklahoma, the daughter of Sherman and Stella Smothers. She married Clinton Burkett on September 24, 1928. Edna lived most of her life in Dallas County. In addition to being a homemaker, she had been a partner in the Adel Cafe in Adel and had worked at Look Magazine. She was a member of the Dallas Center United Methodist Church and she enjoyed crocheting and tying quilts. Edna is survived by her son, Charles (Shirley) Burkett of Johnston; her daughters, Jean Whitten of Waukee, Joyce Paulson of Ankeny, and Judy (Larry) Kelso of Garden Grove; ten grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers, one sister, and two grandchildren. Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Brandt Funeral Home in Dallas Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Dallas Center United Methodist Church or Mercy Hospice.
