Facts and Events
Edna I. Hamp was born in 1875. She married Howard McCollom. They lived in Los Angeles, California. The Voyage and Indenture story about the immigrant ancestors furnished by Hamp Hunter Vance Marshall (H3664) was written by Edna. The other information in hand about Edna and Howard was found in the Hazel DeLapp albums where one page is devoted to pictures of Edna and Howard and their daughter. There is a photo taken on their 60th wedding anniversary but bears no date. There are also winter scenery pictures taken in their cabin in Strawberry Flats. An added note by Hazel DeLapp states: "Tragedy seemed to follow them. After the death of their daughter their years were without meaning. Howard had several heart attacks and while caring for him Edna fell and broke her hip. She refused to go back to hospital for a second operation, and cared for him from her wheelchair until he died. After that she spent about a six years alone. One night while alone she was knocked unconscious and robbed. She died in a rest home in 1964". According to Hamp Hunter Vance Marshall her death occurred in 1965. Howard died in 1958. |
