Facts and Events
Clem as he was known to all his family and friends founded two businesses in Camelsdale: Haslemere Surrey Gales Garage and Gales Coaches. He married Beatrice Jarrett in 1903 at Fernhurst West Sussex. Clem started his working life in his fathers small building firm in Fernhurst, but joined the Royal Sussex Regiment in 1914 and later on joined the Army Service Corps and served in France for three and a half years. After the war he joined Aldershot and District Traction Company to become one of there first buss drivers, in 1929 he left to start his own hire business. To begin with he rented a barn to turn into a garage for his one car, later he went on to build the succesful garage where he carried on hisbusiness until his retirement. Just after the war Clem managed to buy more land in the village and opened the Coach business. After his retirement the two business were run by his two sons Reg Gale the coaches and Harry Gale the garage. Clem had a third son Donald who up until his retirement worked for Cable and Wireless in Brazil. References
