Howard Johnston note:  Fields 11 & 12 indicate father [11], mother [12] are of foreign birth.  Field 13, which has been checked for Edgar, Melvina and Aretta is supposed to indicate a person was born within the year, which certainly isn't the case.  The census taker probably  meant, when he checked Field 13, is that the mother is of foreign birth.

NATURALIZATION: "Declaration of Intention" to become a U S citizen; dated 31 Mar 1877, Flint MI. Copy of this form in possession of Howard Johnston, 545 Jefferson, Kimberly, ID 83341. All records on this individual have his first name spelled as Edgar; however, his own signature, which is very plain and well-written, gives his first name as Edger, his mother's maiden name.

OBITUARY: Otisville: Edgar [sic] Rawlings [sic] died 12 Feb 1911. Had been in poor health for 2 years. Mr. Rawlings was born near Strathroy, Ontario, March 23, 1833, died at 3 pm 12 February.                   FUNERAL OF MR. RAWLING 
           WELL KNOWN RESIDENT OF OTISVILLE BURIED YESTERDAY 

Otisville, Mich., Feb. 14.--The funeral of Edgar [sic] Rawling was held from his home on North street yesterday afternoon, Rev. Lansing officiating. Burial was in Smith Hill cemetery. Mr. Rawling was born near Strathroy, Ontario, March 23, 1933 [sic - should be 1833] and died at 3 p. m., February 12. In early life he moved to Genesee county, where he resided for a time, then lived in St. John's for a while, but returned to Otisville and lived here. Besides his wife he leaves his sisters, Mrs. Johnson of Idaho, and Mrs. Spencer, of Strathroy, Ontario. For years he had been a member of the M. E. church of this place. He had been in poor health for two years, but only this winter had he been confined to his bed. He was a highly respected citizen and an old pioneer.
