CAPTAIN EBENEZER LYON [Henry1] was born at Newark, N.J. in 1670, and died at Elizabethtown March 13, 17(38/)39. He married Elizabeth, baptized in N.Y. City Dutch Reformed Church, March 28, 1671, daughter of John and Susannah (Melyn) Winans, who was born 1668, and died July 1, 1739. They were both buried in the churchyard of the old First Presbyterian Church at Elizabethtown. Ebenezer Lyon was Captain of the sloop " Three Sisters" from Amboy, N.J. to Boston, Mass. from 1723-25, and of the sloop "Dove" 1726-33. In 1694, he was one of the Associates of Elizabethtown. He was a soldier in the Albany Expedition, 1698.
The will of Ebenezer Lyon of Elizabethtown, N.J. is dated Jan. 22, 1738-9. It mentions wife, Elizabeth (bequest of L50, etc.); children: Elizabeth, wife of Ephraim Clark; Darkis (Dorcas ?), wife of Ebenezer Stebbins; Susanna, wife of David Morehouse; Ebenezer Lyon, and ___, wife of John Thompson; ; grandchildren: Peter Lyon, Ebenezer Wade, Bethia Winans, Samuel and David Man(n), Elizabeth, Ephraim, Hannah, Darkis, Henry, Riderous, Nathaniel, and Ichabod Clark, Elizabeth and Hannah Thompson, David and Joanna Morehouse, and Cornelius, Abigail and Jacob Stebbins....

ELIZABETH WINANS b ca 1669 d 1 July 1739 baptised 28 Mar 1671 in the N. Y. Dutch Church. She md Capt. Ebenezer Lyon b ca 1670 d 31 Mar 1739 buried at Elizabethtown, N. J. He was the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Bateman) Lyon and was b at Newark, N. J. His will dated 22 Jan 1738/9 with codicil dated 17 Mar 1738/9 proved 16 May 1739. Elizabeth and Capt. Ebenezer are buried side by side in the Presbyterian Church Yard at Eiizabethtown, N. J. They had the following children:

Bethia Lyon b ca 1713 d 10 July 1766 age 53 md (1) John Winans her 1st cousin whose line was (1-8-1), md (2) Joseph Foster son of Nathan Foster and Mary (Lyon) Foster. He was b ca 1715 d 18 Aug 1742. Bethia md (3) Ichabod Gruman Sr. b ca 1724 d 16 Dec 1788 in his 65th year, buried at Elizabethtown, N.J.

Will of Ebenezer Lyon
Names: Daughter, Elizabeth, wife of Ephraim Clark, and her five children, viz., Elizabeth, Ephraim, Hannah, Ideras and Darkis Clark, all under age.
Daughter, Darkis, wife of Ebenezer Stebbins.
Daughter, Susana, wife of David Moorehouse.
Grandson, Peter Lyon, land bought of George Jewell, deceased, at 21, unless his father, my son Benjamin, should return and need it.
Grandson, Ebenezer Wade, land I bought of his grandfather, Benjamin Wade, and £3.10, to purchase two acres of land from the heirs of Daniel Burnet, deceased.
Granddaughters--Elizabeth and Hannah Thompson, a trunk dated 1682, with its contents (£43.16.08), belonging to the estate of Benjamin Wade, Jun'r, for the use of his son and daughter, Ebenezer and Mary Wade, both under age; Phebe Thompson, a legacy left her by her father, John Thompson, at 18 years of age.
Other grandchildren--Bethiah Winans, Mary and Ebenezer Lyon, Samuel and David McCan, Elizabeth, Ephraim, Hannah, Darkis, Henery, Riderous, Nathaniel and Ichabod Clark, David and Johaanah Moorehouse, Cornelius, Abigail and Jacob Stebbins.
Land joining lands of Benjamin Meeker, John Thompson, Alexander Kene, deceased. Land that belonged to Thomas Headley.
Executors--friends, David Ogden, attorney-at-law, Thomas Longworth, Isaac Lyon, Benjamin Clark, Joseph Lyon of Newark, and Joseph Tuttle of Hanover.
