Obituary from Oneonta Star, August 6, 1960 Earl C. Barley Earl C. Barley, 48, of West Laurens, died August 5 at his home following an illness of four months. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, August 5, at the Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta, the Rev. George Summerson of Gilbertsville, officiating. Burial will be in Plains Cemetery, Oneonta. Mr. Barley was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Arkville, N. Y.. the son of Asa and Agnes (Dykeman) Barley. He married Alberta Crawford, April 20, 1934, in West Oneonta. He was a farmer and carpenter. He lived most of his life in West Laurens and was a graduate of Oneonta High School. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. James Toomath of Massilon, Ohio; his mother, Mrs. Agnes Barley. 2 Hunt St., Oneonta; two brothers, Leonard of Balboa, Panama Canal Zone, and Lt. Col. Edward Barley, Glendale, Arizona; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Kelsey, New Hartford; and Mrs. Carl Collier, West Oneonta; two granddaughters, Trina Lynn and Lorraine Gay Toomath, both of Massilon, Ohio; one aunt, Mrs. William Gavit of 15 Grand St., Oneonta; one uncle, Benjamin Barley of Fleischmanns and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience alter 6 p.m. Saturday. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
