Duncan McGillivray was an engineer in a large coal maine at Wankie (Hwange) in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). He married Anna Riddoch in Africa, so it is difficult to find records of the marriage. Duncan and Anna regularly returned home to Inverness, making the three-week journey from Durban on ships of the Union Castle line. They retired to a bungalow in Inverness which they furnished with Africa curios including a table that was made from an elephant's foot.
