Facts and Events
Donald John McGillivray was a keen amateur footballer, and got his nickname "Doyle" from a professional footballer of the time. When Doyle took his Sunday walk by the river he carried a furled umbrella, even on fine sunny days. The umbrella concealed the newspaper which he would read on a bench by the river (reading the newspaper on Sunday was frowned upon by the strict presbyerian family). Though Doyle never married, it became known that he had a long-time girlfriend who appeared at his funeral, much to the annoyance of his sisters and nieces who were quite rude to her. Doyle was a clerk on the railways. |
