Personal History
Douglas James Hamilton[2] was born 23 September 1856[1] (registered in the district of St George Hanover Square, co. London)[2] and was baptized 30 October 1856 in the parish of Little Gaddesden, Hertfordshire.[3]
Douglas matriculated from Christ Church, Oxford, on 15 January 1875 (then said to be aged 19, but actually 18).[4] He earned the Bachelor of Arts in 1879.[4]
