CAUTION! This Dorothy Swett (2)may or may not be the same as Dorothy Swett (1). That this Dorothy's surname was Swett depends on the unproven research of others on the Internet. Because one son and one grandson carried a middle name of Swett or variation thereof indicates that the name was important. This Dorothy's calcuated birth date is also surprisingly close to that of Dorothy Swett (1). More research is needed. Please read the rest of the text.

(Research):From Ben Swett: Thanks for contacting me. I have done some digging in my records, and I think it is unlikely that Dorothy Swett born 3 Sep 1770 in Kingston was the one who married Joshua Jackman, because her father and brother moved to Bethel, Oxford, Maine.

I did find a possibility of who she might be. The family of Benjamin Swett (b. 9 Feb 1727) and Rebecca Pierce (b. 18 Jan 1727) moved from Newbury, MA, to Boscawen, NH. Stackpole's Swett Genealogy only has their children who were recorded in Newbury, and the youngest is David b. 9 Nov 1766, so they could have had a daughter Dorothy born 1767-1770.

The 1790 Census for Boscawen has Benjamin Swett with 1 male over 16 [himself] and 2 females [his wife and a daughter].

His son Benjamin Swett (b. 18 Aug 1755) married Sarah Jackman (b. 27 Sep 1755) in Boscawen, had 8 children there including Samuel Swett b. 1792, and died there in 1810. This whole family is accounted for in the 1790 Census for Boscawen.

Although either Dorothy Swett born 1770 in Kingston or an unrecorded Dorothy Swett born 1767-1770 is a possibility, neither of these two possibilities tracks to the name Samuel Swett as it apparently should. I will see if I can find a Samuel Swett who could have had a daughter born about 1770.

Sorry I haven't been more helpful with this question. My only suggestion would be to see if Boscawen has anything about the parents of Dorothy (Swett) Jackman, perhaps on her marriage record or death record, but you have probably tried that already.

To Ben Swett: Do you know if Dorothy Swett, born 3 Sep 1770, Kingston, Rockingham, NH married Joshua Jackman of Boscawen, NH? One of Joshua's sons was Samuel Swett Jackman and he in turn called one of his Samuel Swett Jackman. The latter is my great great grandfather. Joshua and Dorothy's deaths were reported in 1848 the New Hampshire Patriot and State Gazette, 12 July 1849 as follows: At Chelsea, VT, Dec 29 [1848], Mr. Joshua Jackman, age 82 years and 11 months, also at the same place, June 25 [1849], Mrs. Dorothy, relict of the late Joshua Jackman, age 78 years and 9 months, both formerly of Boscawen. Dorothy's birth, without knowing the days, calculates at September 23, 1770.
