Facts and Events
Provided very good genealogy information, August's diary, and oral recollections to Mike Newquist in 2000. She was the last living member of the August Newquist branch and her generation. The LaBrose surname was possibly changed from LaBosciano after 1920 (see Joseph LaBrose notes). Based on my one interview of Dorothy. Dorothy told me the family had it hard after her father died. The move may have been after the family moved out of their house to a smaller one. Dorothy related her mother insisted the family piano was going with them to their new residence. I believe one of the brothers had a summer home in Naples, Florida. I learned that both of her brothers were married and had no children. Willard built himself a forty foot sailboat and Dorothy had fond memories sailing Lake Michigan. She thought the saw dust from the business caused cancer in both of her brothers and led to their deaths. The home she used in Naples, FL had been her brother Herbert's. She expressed some apprehension as to my motives in contacting her in her old age. I voiced my lack of interest in anything material she may own. Her mother came to America and lived first in upstate New York I recall. The 1920 census was not a good census. The 1900 census was better. You might recall my notes on August where I mentioned Jimmy Newquist knew Willard as a result of a business connection.
