Dorothy Mae McMahon Crumrin was born Dec. 6, 1911, in Terre Haute, to Chester and Clella McMahon. She passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Union Hospital, with her family at her side. Dorothy married Roy Crumrin on April 1, 1934, and they had two sons, Ronald and Richard. Dorothy and Roy were married 58 years, until he preceded her in death on July 5, 1992. She had one sister, Helen McMahon Nash. She attended Eliza B. Warren Elementary School, Sandison School, and Wiley High School. Dorothy first worked for Thompson-Symon Poster Company, then stayed home to raise her family until she became secretary of Terre Haute Roofing and Siding Co., which she co-owned with her husband in the 1950s. When her good friend, Kathleen King, opened the Meadows Center Beauty Salon, Dorothy went to work there as a receptionist/manager, and stayed for 35 years, making many lifelong friends among the ladies of Terre Haute, including her close friends, Jan Coffman and Susie Costa. Dorothy moved to Saturday Set and Company as a receptionist, and retired from there after five years when she was in her 80s. She loved to travel and made visits to many states and to the Bahamas.Dorothy is a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, was a former member of the Terre Haute Elks Club, Blue Stocking Club, and Canasta Club. She was secretary of the Deming Center Tenants Association for several years. She most recently resided at Royal Oaks Health Care Center, where she was very fond of her caretakers. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Jacquelyn Crumrin of Terre Haute, and Richard and Jean Crumrin of Stilesville; her grandchildren, Peggy and John Wessol of Terre Haute, Ronald Crumrin Jr. of Dallas, Jim and Sandy Crumrin of Montezuma, Judy and Bill Sheldon, Nicci Crumrin and James Ofsansky and Curt and Kim Crumrin, all of Terre Haute; Susan Crumrin of Stilesville, Diana Crumrin of Indianapolis, Melissa Crumrin of Stilesville, and Julie O'Riley of Zionsville. She also is survived by great-grandchildren, Sarah Mains, Holly Wessol, Trevor Wessol, Tyler Crumrin, Laura Hires and Steve Eddleman, Jessica and Chris Durbin, Ashley Sheldon, April Sheldon, Brittany Belfi, Zachary Belfi and Kelsie Clark, Joshua Belfi, Kyle Crumrin, Cora Crumrin, Jay Christopher Creech and Kara Huff, Breanna and Brandon Voils, and Kayla O'Riley; great-great-grandchildren, Alexis Hires-Eddleman, Ryan Ball, Jalen Sheldon and Emilee Voils; and a host of additional loving relatives and friends. Dorothy also was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Clella; her husband, Roy; her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Ben Nash; her great-grandsons, Matthew Ryan Mains and Austin Curtis Crumrin; and her great-great-granddaughter, Alivia Grace Sheldon-Sanders.Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 1 p.m., with Dorothy's nephew, the Rev. David Butts, officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, 7500 N. Clinton St.
