- ↑ TRAVERSE CITY - Dorothy L. Helfrich, 88, a homemaker from Traverse City, died Wednesday afternoon at Bortz Health Care.
Born Feb. 12, 1915, in Weberville, she was the daughter of Roy H. and Leona (Fisher) Fay. On April 27, 1935, in Lansing, she married Lyle H. Helfrich, who preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1999. Dorothy had been a resident of the Grand Traverse area since 1944, moving from Lansing. She was an accomplished musician, playing the violin, piano and organ for her personal enjoyment. Dorothy's other interests included gardening, traveling, nature, needlework and wintering in Okeechobee, Fla. As a former resident of Hope Village, she was always appreciative of the care she received and her many friends there. Dorothy is survived by her two sons, James L. (Karen) Helfrich of Lansing and Richard R. (Linda) Helfrich of Traverse City; three brothers, Russell (Alice) Fay of Georgetown, Texas, Donald Fay of Lansing and Jack (Pat) Fay of Sun City, Ariz.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home this evening, March 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Kendale Dennis officiating. Graveside services will follow at Ogdensburg Cemetery on Old Mission Peninsula. In remembrance, memorials may be directed to Munson Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
