Donna B. Creps, 83, of St. Paul, died Aug. 25, 2011.
Donna called Duluth home for over 40 years. She loved Lake Superior and the community. An avid reader, she visited the Woodland branch of the Duluth Public Library weekly for many years, reading three books per week. She volunteered at the library teaching others how to read. In the 1980s, she won the Duluth Spelling Bee. The New York Times crossword had nothing on Donna as she completed multiple news papers crosswords and crossword books weekly. Donna enjoyed fishing. She landed her own trophy size and mounted sail fish as well as a large tuna. In addition, taking multiple trips to Canada, she caught a number of large fish that were bigger than she was and that's not a fish story. She was also a championship bowler with numerous 300 game trophies to her name. Born and raised in Detroit, Mich., Donna was proud to say that her father worked for Henry Ford as his chauffer and that she met Henry Ford many times. She was married to her first husband, Mike, for 13 years when he passed away unexpectedly. She then began work at Henry Ford Hospital where she met her second husband, Richard, and moved to Duluth. While in Duluth she opened two children's clothing stores called KidStuff, assisted in opening a deli downtown called Dolly's, worked in advertising at Lake Superior Magazine, and obtained her real estate license and joined the Bowman Properties group. Her biggest love in her work life was becoming a clerk at Walgreens on Superior Street where she was known as Donna Mae or as "The Walgreen's Lady" She stayed in this role for 12 years and retired in 2006. Donna had many wonderful friends from multiple communities in Duluth. She was a gregarious and kind person with a great sense of humor. She lovingly raised her three children mostly alone, and enjoyed being Grandma Donna to her three grandchildren and great-grand child. She had a deep love for all children and animals. Donna was a survivor; strong, independent, proud and devoted. She loved to help those in need, and made a lasting impact on those who knew her. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Hannah Angus; sister Betty Chall; brother William Adams; spouses Michael Geary, and James Creps; grand daughter Alexis Wells; and dog Muffy Creps. She was survived by children, Christine Allain (Harold), David Geary (Deanne Roquet), and Nancy Wells; grandchildren Erin Geary (Andrea), and Jesse Geary; great-grandchild, Maya Geary; beloved Canadian relatives; many nieces and nephews. Memorial: 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, in the Chapel at Presbyterian Homes of Arden Hills, 3220 Lake Johanna Blvd., Arden Hills, MN, 55112. A reception follows in the Fireside room. Private family internment at Lakewood Cemetery.
