Donald served in the Army in World War II, stationed in Panama and reaching the rank of sergeant.

He lived in San Juan County, New Mexico, for over 30 years where he was co-owner of the Office Supply and Service Company for 25 years. Donald was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 40 years and also contributed his time to Boy Scout Troop #179. He sold Christmas trees for the past 30 years for the Boys Club, was involved yearly in the Tootsie Roll Drive, and was an active member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmington.
