Disputed lineage

A book published in 1912[1] claims that he was the second son of Jan Thomasse Van Dyck and Tryntje Haegen, but more recent research (cited in Find A Grave) apparently suggests this is not true. The baptismal dates of the children of Jan Thomasse Van Dyck and Tryntje Haegen also suggest that Derrick was not their second son. However, it is not impossible he was their third son, if he was born about 1646.

This book claims that Derrick was the second son of Jan Thomasse Van Dyke, but later publications regarding Jan Thomasse Van Dyck make no mention of him. Presumably he was not the son of Jan Thomasse Van Dyck/Dyke.
