Denis Cleary was born on 27th December 1883 a 6 Rutland Place in the city of Dublin. He was the son of Maria Cleary, formerly Mooney, and her husband Denis Cleary, who had died during the pregnancy; young Denis never met his father.
Denis appears in the 1901 census living with his mother, grandmother and uncles at 5 Rutland Place North. He was described as a "messenger unemployed".
In 1910, aged 26, Denis married Bridget Nulty. They appear in the 1911 census still living at 5 Rutland Place North. Denis by this time was working as a butcher. He has yet to be researched after 1911.
