Excerpts from an account of David Turple's death in the Oregonian (newspaper): "David H. Turple of Portland, Oregon who was killed Saturday on Mount Hood in an unscuccessful attempt to same another climber, 'did in death what he did in life.' his paster said Monday. "Dave was the kind of guy who, if he had a choice to lay down his life for somebody, that's waht he'd do." said the Rev. Don Miller of Bethany Baptist Church, where Turple was a parishioner. "If you needed him, he would be there," said Miller of the 51 year old construction superintendent, who plunged to his death from Sooper Spur to Elliot Glacier while trying to stop the uncontrolled slide of a member of his climbing party, Bill Pinenton, 17, of Newberg. Both men died in the accident at the 8,500 foot level while descending from the summit of the 11, 245 foot peak.
