Info. from FAG member Cherie Officer and the Portville Historical and Preservation Society. His Great Grandfather, Smith Parish setteled in Portville in 1847 and built the home that is now (2011) The Portville Free Library. He was a graduate of Portville High School and after attending Fenn Colege in Cleveland, Ohio, was employed by the First National Bank in olean, NY. He married Josephine Powers on March 8, 1935 who passed away in 2005. In 1942 Earl enrolled in Parks Air College, a division of St. Louis University. After graduation he served on the meteorologist staff of Transcontinental and Western Air in Kansas City and with the staff of that office, forecast for the pilots of the Air Transport Command. He returned to Portville in 1945 to act as private secretary to Duncan Dusenbury and took up duties as Clerk/Treasurer for the Village of Portville. In 1962 he became the first manager of the Portville office of the First National Bank(in 2011 Manufacturers Hanover). He was a lifetime member of the Portville Methodist Church and Portville Fire Dept. He served for 40 years as a board member and secretery/treasurer of both the Portville Free Library and the Chestnut Hill Cemetery Association. He was a charter member and president of the Portville Kiwanis Club and a member of the Portville Historical and Preservation Society. He had a active interest in many area affairs including the Portville Community Mens Club, Portville Central School Board of Education, The Randolph, NY., Childrens Home and the Olean YMCA. In 1991 he was named Citizen of the year by the YMCA. He was survived at the time of his death by one son, David (Shirley) of Natick.
