"The will of David Linnell of Barnstable was made 17 November, 1688, and proved 6 March, 1688. Legacies were given as follows: To sons Samuel Linnell, and Elisha Linnell, and daughters Hannah Davis, Experience Linnell, Susanna Linnell and Abigail Linnell, one shilling each. To 'Daughter mary one Shilling.' To 'Sons Jonathan Linnel and John Linnel my dwelling house out housing and all my Lands both upland and marsh the upland to be devided Length wayes and my son Jonathan to have my house and to pay to his Brother John Linnel half so much as sd house shall be Judged by Indifferant men to be worth and both upland and marsh to be Equally devided for quantity and quallity between them'
To 'Hannah my Loving wife the thirds of all my Lands … during her natural Life and the Lower Roome of my now dwelling house during her widdohood and all the Rest of my Estate in what kind so ever it be to be at her owne dispose' she to be sole executrix.
The witnesses were Edward Lewes and Shubael Dimock.
The inventory was taken 28 February, 1688/9, by James Lewes, Sr., and Melatiah Lothrop. The will and inventory were recorded 9 March, 1688/9, by Joseph Lothrop, Deputy Register."
