Research Notes

  • Effingham County was created by the Act of February 5, 1777 from the two Colonial Parishes of St. Matthew and St. Phillip. These two Parishes had been organized in 1758 from land acquired in 1733 from a Creek cession. A part of Effingham was included in Screven County in 1793.
