David emigrated to Virginia in 1643. He served the House of Burgesses for two years and was a vestryman at St Peter's Parish from 1685 until death. His house "Tusculum" was purchased by Sweet Briar College in Amherst County, once part of Albemarle County. At his death, he had 4,584 acres, which was left to a grandson.
