    4. DAVID BABCOCK, son of George and Elizabeth (Hall) Babcock, was born in Westerly, R. I., Dec. 22, 1700 and was married by his father, as Justice of the Peace, Feb. 24, 1730/1 to Dorcas Brown, born May 23, 1713, died South Kingston, Dec. 18, 1798. He died there in March 1783, leaving a will dated April 10, 1782, proven March 10, 1783, which shows he owned two slaves, which he gave to his wife. He mentions daughters Ruth and Dorcas Babcock, Mary Denison and Miriam Watson; sons David, Jonathan, Gideon, Abijah and Asa; grandson, Benedict of Benedict, deceased, also Gardner, Denison, Sarah, Mary and Frances, children of deceased son Benedict. A silver tankard was given to son David and has been handed down in the family. In 1903 it was owned by Mrs. Emma Babcock Horton of Chicago. Besides the above named children, there was a daughter Miriam who probably died young.
