Mr. Scrivens
Daniel Scrivens of 445 E. Market St., was dead on arrival at Greene Memorial Hospital Sunday morning. Xenia firemen removed him to the hospital from his home at 8:19 a.m.
Son of the late Alexander and Daisy Crane Scrivens of Xenia, he was born in Atlanta, Ga., and was graduated from Alabama State University. He was employed as an equipment specialist at Wright-Patterson AF Base.
An expert bridge player, he had written a weekly column, "Play Those Cards Right," in the base newspaper, "The Skywrighter," and in 1969 was honored by the Miami Valley Bridge Players Association with the title, "The Bridge Player's Bridge Player."
He had served as a board member of the America Contract Bridge League and was a former vice president of the American Bridge Association, holding life memberships in both organizations. He also belonged to the Pals Club and Omega Phi Psi Fraternity.
Survivors include his widow, Beatrice Pitts Scrivens; two sons, Danny and Antone, both at home; one brother, Branley Scrivens of Xenia and two sisters, Mrs. Quincy (Artie) Cash and Mrs. E. Penn (Lena) Walker of Xenia.
The Rev. R. L. Gates will conduct services Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Winfrey Funeral Home, 335 E. Market St., where calling hours are 4-9 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery.
