Daniel Sayre is named in a list of inhabitants of Southampton, New York in 1657. He was assessed in 1683 on three polls and 207 pounds, 3 shillings, 4 pence was the total. He lived at Bridgehampton. He married, first, Hannah Foster, and later Sarah ? Hannah is assumed to be the mother of his children.

On a fragment of the town record is the following: "Monday, Jan. 13, 1667, laid out for Daniel Sayre, on the north side of Francis, 46 poles east and west, and north and south 52 poles for 15 acres."

At the town sessions at Southold 9 June 1670 Will of John White, dec’d (p11-14) Will p11-12 John White of Southampton in East Riding of Yorkshire on Long Island; to my only son John, all my lands; in case my son die w/o issue the before mentioned to my dau-in-law Elizabeth; my wife Hannah; to the eldest son of my brother James my two nephews John Topping and Thomas Topping; my four younger sisters (not named); to my wife Hannah; to my two children aforesaid my Dau Elizabeth and my son John; constitute my wife Hannah, my executor and my friends Daniell Saers and my brother-in-law Thomas Topping to be overseers of this will and guardians of my children 9 May 1670 John White /s/ Thomas Cooper Thomas Cooper JR prob 30 May 1670 by the witnesses and on 1 June 1670 by Thomas Topping of Southampton, before court of sessions at Southold will of John White, dec’d To Hannah White the late wife of testator sole exec of said dec’d Daniel Sayre and Thomas Topping to be supervisors

He died in 1708 having outlived all his brothers.

One interesting provision of his will read:

" - - - . Imprimis I give & ffreely bequeath unto Joseph Sayre Daniell Sayre Hannah Topping the wife of M'Josiah Topping and my son Samuel Though dece yet his children come in for his equall part with his Brethren with my son David Sayre to these I give my Tow negro Slaves called by the names of Gordg and Moll. These to be sold by my son-in law Josiah Toppin and my son Daniel Sayre and the money that they fetch is to be equally devided amongst my children before named and Samuells children are to divid his fift part equally between them. - - - "

And then later:

"It is likewise my desire that my negro woman may have Liberty to chuse her master when she is sold & that she may have all her cloathes and her box and all her things with her."
