Daniel's next sighting is in 1901, when he was living at Wallasey in Cheshire and working as a dock labourer.
In 1907, Daniel married Sarah Ann Firth, formerly Steele, in Liverpool. By the time of the 1911 census they were living separately back in Wallasey, him in a boarding house, and her with her parents and using her maiden name. Sarah has yet to be traced after 1911.
In 1924, Daniel married a widow named Martha Kelly, formerly Dennis. The marriage would, however, be brief. Just over two years later, Daniel died, aged 57. Martha survived him by fourteen years.
