  2. Source:Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Peirce Genealogy : Being the Record of the Posterity of John Pers, an Early Inhabitant of Watertown, in New England, Who, p. 36, gives the birth date of Daniel as 18 Feb 1698. Yet the Groton birth record found in the VRs on this date indicates it belongs to "John", and John is also shown in Source:Butler, Caleb. History of the Town of Groton, Including Pepperell and Shirley, from the First Grant of Groton Plantation in 1655, p. 427. The birth of Daniel is not seen in the VRs or Butler. However, Pierce chooses to show Daniel's birth on the date of John's birth with no John in the family. The date of marriage of the parents is unknown, no probate for the father is found, so there is no constraint against children earlier than John b. 1698, so it is not clear why Pierce felt the need to change the recorded data, and it appears to be an error.

Pierce says the father died before 1723, unexplained. This is based on the grandfather's will of 1723 which gives to the children of his son Daniel deceased. However, in 1714, the grandfather deed land to his grandson Daniel. To be old enough to own land, Daniel should have been born by 1693. This is within a time that his parents could have been married and not inconsistent with any of the sparse data we do know about this family.
