The Minot Daily NewsFriday 10 Sep 1948 D.S. Petry, 82, Dies at Surrey Surrey, N.D. – Daniel Shaffer Petry, 82, Surrey Resident since 1900 died Thursday afternoon at his home here. Mr. Petry had been in poor health since last November.Last of the charter members of the Surrey Church of the Brethren, he had been superintendent of the Sunday school and a member of the church board for 40 years.Survivors, besides his widow, are nine children. They are Harry, Great Falls, Mont. ; Edward, Caldwell, Ida.; Paul, Bellingham , Wash. And Norman , Glacier Park, Mont. All children by a previous marriage; the Rev Paul Petry, Goshen, Ind.; Wilbur, Minot; Mrs Anna Borchers, Freeport, Ill.; Morris, Norwich and Donald of Surrey. One sister, Mrs. Jane Firke, is at Mansfield , Ill. There are 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.Mrs. Petry is the former Nora Yoder whom he married at Surrey in 1903. His first wife, Amanda, died in 1895. Mr. Petry had lived in Westminster , MD. , where he was born Dec. 24, 1895, before homesteading in Surrey .Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:30 pm at the Thompson-Larson funeral chapel in Minot and at 3 pm at the Church of the Brethren here, and burial will be in the church cemetery. The Rev. Walter Miller of Surrey and the Rev. Sylvan Stemen of Carrington will officiate.Mr. Petry, the last charter member of the Church of the Brethren at Surrey , had served on the church board for 40 years.Mrs. Petry and nine children are the survivors.
