Facts and Events
Daniel Meeker, son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Meeker, was the father of the Mary Meeker who married Joseph Cory. Daniel was a yeoman of the borough of Elizabeth in Essex County, New Jersey. In 1753, Daniel petitioned the courts to make his son-in-law Joseph Cory, guardian for the children of his deceased son, Moses. Daniel’s will was dated 24 February 1759 and was proved 8 October 1760. In his will he names his wife Mary, daughters Mary (wife of Joseph Cory), and Abigail (wife of David Conklin), sons Abraham and Daniel who was an invalid, and grandchildren John, Moses, and Susannah Meeker (children of Moses Meeker). His widow Mary's will is dated 18 June 1765 and was proved 9 March 1770. In her will, Mary Meeker is mentioned as living in Elizabeth, New Jersey. It appears from her will that all of her children except Mary, wife of Joseph Cory may have predeceased her. She left her daughter Mary (Meeker) Cory 100 pounds. To her granddaughter Mary (Cory), wife of Joseph Conkling she left 15 pounds and a silver spoon. Granddaughters Mary, Hannah, and Sarah Conklen, daughters of David Conklin were to receive 15 pounds each at the age of 18. Also mentioned are granddaughters Sarah Meeker, daughter of Abraham Meeker; Rebecca Meeker (father not identified, may be Abraham), and Susanna Meeker, daughter of Moses Meeker. The remainder of her estate was to go to her son-in-law, Joseph Corey who was also the executor and guardian of the estate. References
