DEATH: Hampden County Leader, October 1, 1906 Daniel F. Knight, aged 60 years, died yesterday evening at his residence on Kellogg Street. He leaves a wife, son, and brother. Mr. Knight lived in Montgomery for 20 years and spent six years in the army. He was a member of the G.A.R. and Odd Fellows. Mr Knight had been taken ill very suddenly last Thursday, and was brought home, but seemed to grow worse rather than better. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, the Rev. Richardson officiating.

Hampden County Leader, October 1906 - HAD GOOD RECORD The Late Daniel F. Knight Was in 27 Battles The funeral services of Daniel F. Knight, were held at the family residence in Kellogg Street yesterday, and the G.A.R. ceremonies at the cemetery. At the house three ministers were present, with the services conducted by the Rev. F. W. Richardson of the Advent church. Floral offerings were received from Washington, D.C. and many towns in this vicinity. A wreath of wax flowers was sent from Bridgeport, Connecticut. At the grave the service was solemn and impressive. As soon as the coffin was lowered the voice of the chaplain broke the silence that had attended the ceremony. The late Mr. Knight enlisted in the 27th Massachusetts Volunteers at the age of 16 and was entered as a private on the roster of company G. He served through the entire war but never quite recovered his full strength after the severe campaign. He was present at Appomatox and Roanoke Island, and engaged in 27 battles. He was taken sick in Woodstock a week ago Friday, and according to the doctor's account, suffered from ptomaine poisoning. Others were taken ill at the samr place, but Mr. Knight's weakened consticution hastened on the end, and he died Friday, the only one of those taken ill whose case was fatal. Mr. Knight was a member of the Odd fellows of the Grange, and a staunch G.A.R. man. His sudden death was a shock to all, and he is missed by a host of friends and relatives.
