IN MEMORIUM-

Died, Friday, February 2nd(1894) at 5 o'clock A.M. after an illness of about two weeks, Rev. Daniel Johnson, at last he has found that sweet silent sleep; has crossed over the river of death and gone to his heavenly home; there to rest from his labors. We have heard him say that he was just living on earth waiting for the Lord to carry him home. The Lord must have said to him "come ye the blessed of my father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

He was converted and joined the M.E. church at Hartford, Indiana. He was a faithful worker for the Lord, having been a local preacher and bible class teacher until his death. He always attended every means of grace and was an old class leader until the last few years when he said he wanted to harness up some of the young men and break them into the work. He attended Sunday School and preaching just two weeks before the day he was buried and taught his class; but he has taught his last lesson. May the Lord keep his Sunday School scholars to profit by the lessons he taught them. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

He was born in Indiana May 25, 1823. He was married Nov. 12, 1847 to Miss Mary M. Hamilton, who still survives him. He was a black smith having worked that trade in Rising Sun, Indiana and in Leavenworth, Kansas. He moved with his family in 1855 and experienced the hardships of the early Kansas life. He removed his family to Butler Co. in 1871, where he built and improved a farm three miles east of Eldorado. He afterward lived in Toronto, Woodson County, Kansas two years but came back to his old farm, where he lived until his death. He leaves a wife, four daughters and one son who mourn his loss. His disease was La Grippe which took the form of pneumonia.

Their children are all married, living in homes of their own; but some of them came and faithfully and tenderly waited on him during his last illness. Neighbors were very kind to help do what they could. All that was mortal of Mr. Johnson was enterred on Sunday in Parkers cemetary. The funeral services were held at the home by Rev. J.L. Mills. The funeral was attended by a large assembly. He is not dead, I see him stand close by the golden gate. How humbly fair, clothed in the radiance of the spirit land. Bright as the seraphims that mingle there. He will not leave us long. No, he will come and visit us in dreams and by the way will our spirits to his heavenly home, when life with all it's grief, has passed away. Ah! then our souls upon that happier shore. There shall we meet, yes meet to part no more. Good bye good father, loving husband, kind friend and noble character.
